The Process

What to Expect

Understanding what happens during an at-home euthanasia visit can help ease anxiety and allow you to focus on saying goodbye.

Initial Contact

Once you and your family have consulted with your family veterinarian and made the decision for home euthanasia, the first step is scheduling an appointment here.

Arrival & Preparation

Dr. Lisa will arrive at your home with everything necessary for the visit. She’ll gently greet your pet and explain each step of the process in a calm, reassuring manner.

Peaceful Passing

A customized pain medication and sedative is given gently under the skin, allowing your pet to relax completely. Once fully at peace, the final medication is given. Your pet drifts off quietly.

Aftercare

Dr. Lisa will give you some time alone with your pet while she prepares to depart. If you elected aftercare and when you are ready, your pet is respectfully carried to Dr. Lisa’s vehicle for transportation to the cremation facility.

Should we allow our pet to pass “naturally” on their own?

Many families ask this question. While it is a loving thought, the natural dying process can be prolonged, uncomfortable, and unpredictable. Pets can experience distress, pain, or laboured breathing in the final stages, and it’s difficult to know how long it will last. Humane euthanasia is a way to ensure a peaceful, pain-free passing—at home, in comfort, surrounded by love. It allows us to prevent suffering rather than wait for it.

As loving pet parents, we all want to give our companions as much time as possible while also ensuring they are not suffering. When your pet’s quality of life has declined to the point where: they are persistently uncomfortable or anxious, they are restleness, getting up or shifting positions frequently in an effort to feel more comfort and less pain. This can be exhibited as he or she not sleeping through the night from pain/discomfort or due to a decline in their cognition similar to dementia in people. basic needs like eating, drinking, urinating/defecating, or
breathing comfortably are no longer sustainable when there is no realistic hope of recovery or return to comfort. When a good quality of life is no longer possible, offering a good death — peaceful, pain-free, and surrounded by love — is a deeply caring and loving choice.

When you enter your address during scheduling, it will automatically confirm if you’re within my standard radius — and if not, I may still be able to help.

Yes. Your pet is always treated with respect, compassion, and tenderness. You may hold them, sit with them, or be wherever feels right.

Same-day availability varies based on my schedule and travel distance, so the fastest way to check is by using the schedule online appointment tool and if there is not a time available that you need then please reach out to me as an urgent request.

The easiest way to schedule is through my online booking system. You’ll be able to select a date and time, enter your pet’s information, and choose the aftercare option that feels right for your family. Because availability can change quickly, online scheduling allows you to instantly lock in the appointment time that works best for you and your family.
If you don’t see a time that fits your urgent needs, please still reach out. I do my best to accommodate same-day and short-notice requests whenever possible.

Pricing varies based on your pet’s weight, travel distance, aftercare choice (private or communal cremation) and time of day of the appointment. Detailed pricing is available here, and is fully transparent. Credit/debit card information is obtained to schedule the appointment however it is not charged until after the appointment.

Yes. I offer aquamation (also called water cremation) as an alternative to traditional fire cremation. Aquamation is a process that uses gentle water flow, warmth, and alkalinity rather than fire. The result is the same respectful return of your pet’s remains, but with significantly less environmental impact. Families may choose between: Private Aquamation — your pet
is cared for individually and their ashes are returned to you. Communal Aquamation — your pet is cared for with other pets and ashes are not returned
